Therapy FAQs
Who works in your practice?
My clinical work is housed in the private practice of Anna Allmann, PhD. Collaborating with Dr. Allmann allows me to provide the best possible care to my clients.
Do you provide in-person or virtual sessions?
I offer primarily virtual sessions. I am happy to now also offer limited in-person appointments at our office located in downtown Rye, NY.
Is telehealth as effective as in-person therapy?
Research suggests that telehealth is just as effective in terms of outcomes as in-person therapy. In the case of exposure and response prevention therapy (ERP), having at least some virtual session allows for the facilitation of exposures that are not possible in the office. Of course, many people will still prefer in-person for a variety of reasons.
How long are sessions? What is the frequency of treatment?
For most individuals, 45 min weekly is appropriate. I also offer twice weekly intensive treatment for clients with more significant symptoms or who are looking to progress more quickly in treatment.
As you step down from treatment and experience symptom reduction, we may meet less frequently, or for shorter durations in order to facilitate practicing independent skill mastery. These decisions are made collaboratively and based on clinical presentation and what the data suggests will be most beneficial for your treatment.
From which states can you see clients?
I can work virtually with clients living in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Florida. I can see any clients in person at our office in Rye, NY.
How long does therapy last?
This varies depending on each individual’s preferences, symptoms, frequency of sessions, engagement with therapy, and several other factors. More than half of clients experience significant symptom reduction within 6-12 weeks. Many of them choose to remain in therapy to discuss other life dynamics that come to the forefront after their anxiety or OCD symptoms decrease. Others feel good about the substantial progress they have made and choose to graduate from therapy. I believe therapy for OCD and anxiety is not meant to last forever, and I’m happy to see clients gain mastery of the skills and be able to apply them on their own.
Other clients, for a variety of reasons, may take more time to fully respond to therapeutic treatment. This does not mean that therapy doesn’t work for them, but that together we may have to be thoughtful about continuing to tailor their treatment plan to work towards the best outcome. This often includes: troubleshooting problems with completing homework, bringing in family members to offer them skills to be most supportive, collaborating with medication managers, considering a change in treatment modality, offering additional treatment such as participation in groups, and more.
While some clients choose to stay in therapy for the longer-term, my goal is to help every client feel better, experience significant reductions in OCD and anxiety symptoms, and ultimately to get them out of therapy and back into their life.
What is the pricing?
My rate is 215 for 45-minute sessions, 250 for 60-minute intake sessions, and 150 for shorter, 30-minute sessions (these are often appropriate for younger children). These prices are competitive in the NY area. They also include collaboration with psychiatrists and other providers, as well as collaboration with schools when working with children.
Do you accept insurance?
Our practice does not accept any insurance directly. Insurance companies dictate the types of services I may provide and for how long, which is to the detriment of the care I provide my clients. As such, I am an out-of-network provider with all insurance providers. I can provide a superbill with the necessary codes for services and diagnoses for you to submit for reimbursement. While many clients are able to get some reimbursement, it is not guaranteed. As I am a pre-licensed provider working under the supervision of a psychologists, this may have an impact on your reimbursement rate.
Please contact your insurance provider directly to inquire about rates of reimbursement. Payment is due in full at the time of each session, paid via a secure electronic medical records system, cash, or check.
What credentials do you have as a therapist?
I hold an MA in Mental Health Counseling. I also hold a permit in Mental Health Counseling from New York state. My permit number is 18-P137895-01. I work under the supervision of Anna Allmann, PhD, who is a clinical psychologist. Her NY license number is 023018.
I am a proud member of the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) and the New York Mental Health Counselors Association (NYMHCA).
What is your cancellation policy?
I kindly request at least 24 hours advance notice of any cancellation to avoid being billed the full fee for the session. With at least 24 hours notice, I am usually able to offer your appointment to someone else. Thank you for understanding.
"Adri is so patient and thoughtful. She helped me highlight my work in a way that makes me so proud of my unique approach to design."
